As the saying goes; all good things come to an end. The morning of the sixth day of our bike ride through Tuscany we met at 8:00 AM for the “route rap”, our usual preview of the ride for that day. The ride was the San Gusme’ Loop, 12.7 miles with an elevation gain of 1150 ft.

After the ride and a shower, we had a 1 ½-hour bus ride to the Amerigo Vespucci airport outside Firenze (Florence). Once off the bus and reunited with my luggage I only had half a dozen steps to a taxi that took me to the Hotel La Scalleta located very near the Ponte Vecchio. Many years ago my wife, Rosalie, and I visited Florence on one of our several trips to Italy for a scientific meeting. I had it in my mind to try to revisit the places I remembered from our visit. I should know that after losing her nine years ago it is not going to be the same. After finding two of the many museums, we visited together I gave up.

The first night in Firenze I had booked dinner at the hotel’s rooftop, panoramic view, bar and restaurant. The view was as advertised.
